Some greenery isn’t meant to be touched.
In the Huron County region that includes
the giant hogweed plant.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority
says in this area giant hogweed is typically found on
flood plains and other wet areas, including near water and bridges.
Giant hogweed has an umbrella shaped flower, purple flecks in the stem, stiff hair on
its stems and large leaves. The plant can grow several metres high.
If you encounter giant hogweed on Ausable Bayfield Conservation
territory, call the Authority and it will be dealt with. Elsewhere you should
notify the municipality. If the plant is found on private property, the owner should contact a weed specialist to remove it.
