As municipalities across Ontario struggle to convince doctors to relocate to rural areas, one town has managed to lure young physicians through a concerted community effort.
Gwen Devereaux, a recruiter at the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, said the town now has 28 doctors, up from just five not long ago.
She says says they have 18 family doctors, as well as some specialists that really increase the quality of local healthcare.
Devereaux says the work never ends as they plan to continue recruitment efforts and keep access to quality healthcare a priority.
She adds they’d be happy to assist other municipalities who struggle with the same recruitment issues.
