Environment Canada is reminding you to take safety measures when it comes to lightning. The most important thing to remember is when you hear thunder, you are within striking distance of lightning.
You should take shelter immediately, in either a house or an all-metal automobile.
When indoors, you should stay away from electrical appliances, doors, windows, fireplaces, and anything else that will conduct electricity like sinks, tubs, and showers. Avoid using a phone that is connected to a landline or cell phones that are plugged in for charging.
If you are caught outside, stay away from tall objects such as trees, police, wires, fences, and take shelter in low lying areas.
Each year lightening kills about 10 Canadians and injuries about 100 to 150 others.
