The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority along with the Huron Stewardship Council will be releasing painted turtles and snapping turtle hatchlings back into the wild as part of the 4th annual turtle release event.
The release will take place Thursday, August 29th at the Morrison Dam Conservation Area from 1 PM until 5 PM.
Healthy Watersheds Technician with Ausable Bayfield Conservation Hope Brock says turtles in Ontario are at risk due to road mortality, habitat loss, so the more education the better for the conservation of turtles.
Brock offers some tips to help turtles.
She says that the event continues to grow as more people are becoming aware of the release. Admission to the release is free and everyone who attends will get to enjoy interactions with live reptiles, geocaching, and displays about conservation.
