Child and health-care cuts were key talking points at the 2019 Annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario meeting. The AMO took place in Ottawa from the 16th- 19th. Premier Doug Ford announced that cuts to municipal public health and childcare programs will go ahead.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says despite the cuts, overall the meetings went well.
Under Ford’s revised plan, local municipalities will be forced to cover 30 percent of all their public-health costs, starting next year. The province currently covers 100 per cent of the cost of certain public-health programs, and 75 percent of others.
