A data collector has estimated the Avon Maitland District School Board has lost $8.8 million in funding over the previous two school years.
Adding in current enrollment numbers and inflation while excluding increased class sizes and a number of other factors, an interactive map allows the user to get a quick glimpse at the estimated cuts every school board in Ontario has faced.
AMDSB Director of Education Lisa Walsh told myFM she can’t speak to the $8.8 million figure but did confirm they lost $7 million in funding from 2018 to this school year.
She says enrollment numbers and a few other factors play into each budget which are separate from what the province provides.
Walsh also noted that they did see a handful of new and returning students this year, which helped the board reclaim the majority of teachers.
Walsh says the province encourages consultation and anyone whose concerned about where the system is going can discuss their worries with their local school board trustee.
