It appears some motorists in Huron County are pretty tardy when it comes to locking their vehicles. OPP were conducting a “Lock-It or Lose-It” campaign over the last few weeks.
The Community Safety Officer went around the county and did visual inspections on one-thousand vehicles. They were checking to see if doors were locked or unlocked, windows were open or closed, and whether keys or valuables were left inside.
OPP say the overall rate for Huron County was 14.5 percent.
Some of the items the Community Safety Officer found inside vehicles were purses, cell phones, and keys. The officer discovered a Ford Fusion parked on the main street in Wingham with its engine running.
Police continue to advise people to lock their vehicles and to keep valuables out of plain sight.
