Four out of five candidates in the Huron-Bruce riding were present for last night’s All Candidates Meeting hosted by the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce.
Nicholas Wendler of the Green Party was unable to attend, but did provide an opening statement to be read, which highlighted the climate crisis and his party’s plans to move away from fossil fuels.
The crowd of about 200 seemed to be quite interested in the discussion around the current climate crisis. There was time for about 20 questions from residents, and a number were centered around the same environmental topic.
Incumbent MP and Conservative candidate, Ben Lobb, says he’s proud of his party’s platform surrounding this issue.
People’s Party of Canada candidate, Kevin Klerks, says his party wants to end the “hysteria” around climate change and get down to creating solutions.
NDP candidate, Tony McQuail, says actions speak louder than words, and his party is ready to deliver on their platform promises.
Liberal candidate, Allan Thompson, acknowledged the younger generation is taking a leadership role in the discussion around climate change, and it’s the candidate’s duty to get them interested in the political side of the matter.
Other topics that were mentioned include Bruce Power and the role nuclear energy plays at a national level, ways to fix the current job crisis, and ways the federal government can improve on their treatment of veterans.
Advance voting will take place from October 11th-14th. The election takes place on October 21st.
