The municipality of South Huron is considering discontinuing winter burials at the Exeter cemetery. They’ll be continuing the discussion at council on Monday night (Oct 7) where Colin Haskett will be there trying to get a better understanding of the reason behind it.
The Vice-President of Haskett Funeral Homes says in their years of experience, making families hold off on burials disrupts the grieving process.
Haskett says the proposed bylaw which is up for first and second reading Monday would allow the cemetery to quote “essentially close its doors from November 15th to April 15th.”
He says if this were to go through they’d likely be putting the deceased in a mausoleum for the winter months before completing the burial process when the ground thaws.
