South Huron is submitting a grant proposal to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. During Monday councils meeting council continued discussions on whether to include one or two ice pads in the plan.
In the end, council voted to submit a plan for one ice pad with the option to build a second for the grant application.
Mayor George Finch says that the municipality needs to make sure the grant application that is submitted is a reasonable one that upper levels of government would be interested in supporting.
Along with the single ice pad, the proposed recreation hub application will also include a walking track, gymnasium, community space, OPP community office and other amenities for all ages.
Finch added this is just a grant application, and no money is being spent for a capital investment.
No decision is expected from the upper levels of government until at least the spring or summer of next year, but the Mayor says lots of municipalities in Ontario will be trying to get funding.
