A united front is the message Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario union members are sending after voting 98% in favour of strike action should contracts with the province remain stalled.
The Avon Maitland ETFO is of course keeping close watch on the negotiations, although they have not participated in a local strike vote, its president Kent Cleland told myFM.
As for walking away from the table provincially with a deal and a smile on their face and what it would look like, Cleland says that means addition, not subtraction.
Cleland would also like to have classroom sizes stay relatively the same. He also says job security is another key point of contention in these talks.
He didn’t say whether he anticipates or expects a local strike vote, and says time will tell if this news will kickstart talks again or if they’ll have to eventually notify of their intentions to strike.
