The fifth annual South Huron Business and Community Excellence Awards Gala is coming up tonight and nominated for one of the awards is Eco Exeter.
The initiative to eliminate the use of single use plastic kicked off last year with grade nine students at South Huron District High School but has quickly spread across the halls and even into the community.
Karah Gidge is now in grade 10 and said when she helped start Eco Exeter she never thought they’d be up for an award a year later.
Gidge says Eco Exeter has now developed relationships with various businesses who are also committing to reducing single use plastics in their day-to-day operations which is excellent to see.
