Huron & Area Search & Rescue has reached one year in operation.
The not-for-profit organization provides professional civilian volunteer
support for first responders in both ground based and marine search and rescue as well as assist during natural disasters.
Deputy Commander Patrick Armstrong says they’ve only received support since their 2018 inception.
HASAR volunteers attended Ottawa during the April floods to help out by laying down sandbags and other ways of assistance. Armstrong says they’ve also had some volunteers assist in successfully locating missing three children at events they’ve attended.
They have over 60 volunteers now ranging from farmers to social workers and police officers, and Armstrong says something like HASAR is integral to have to support first responders in anyway possible so they can continue to effectively do their job.
