Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MP Lianne Rood fully backs outgoing Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer.
That’s what Rood told myFM Thursday (dec 12) afternoon just hours it was announced Scheer was stepping down from the leadership role, citing in large part wanting to spend more time with his family as the reason.
But a report surfaced suggesting that Scheer’s resignation was demanded following the party uncovering Scheer allegedly spent party money on private schooling for his children without their knowledge.
When asked about the loss of trust in the leader both internally and externally, Rood said Scheer’s honesty is something she’s always respected.
This report comes after a federal campaign that called Scheer’s credibility and honesty into question on things such as his dual-citizenship and his job history as an insurance broker.
CPC executive director Dustin van Vugt said he had offered to cover some of the costs of relocating to Ottawa and that includes school funding.
Scheer will remain as MP for his Saskatchewan riding and the party leader until an interim leader is named.
Rood says Conservatives are strong and they’re a united caucus and now they’re looking ahead to finding a new leader for the party.
