Police and the Canadian Anti Fraud Center are reminding residents that scammers and fraudsters are relentless.
This after a phone call started making the rounds demanding that you divulge your Social Insurance Number or risk facing severe consequences…
Police say they are unable to stop the calls from being made, you can block them but they will just use a different one.
Jeff Thomson is a Senior RCMP Anti Fraud Intelligence Analyst with the Canadian Anti Fraud Center. He says if you do get this call or anything similar sounding, it’s a scam.
Thomson says one thing to keep in mind is there is no government agency in Canada that accepts Google Play, Apple or Itune cards as a form of payment.
He says if you do receive a call, email or text demanding payment of any kind, take a moment to make sure you know who you are dealing with and if you suspect it is a scammer, hang up.
