Middlesex County received over $94,000 in funding from the provincial Municipal Modernization Program after both of their applications were approved.
The funding will pay for a business process review to be done by a consultant who will see the different services offered within the county and looking for services that could be moved online.
They’ll also be conducting a payroll review, to see if that can become a county operation rather than have each municipality do their respective payrolls themselves.
Warden Cathy Burghardt-Jesson says this funding welcomes conversations that lead to improvements.
Burghardt-Jesson says she’s impressed with the province presenting a challenge to municipalities and counties by providing this efficiency funding. After meeting heavy backlash to cuts made, the government changed their approach and are putting the onus on lower-tier governments to find efficiencies themselves.
