Parents of students at local Catholic schools can mark down February 25th as another strike day.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) says if an agreement is not reached, members will participate in rotating strikes next week.
The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board will be impacted on Tuesday, February 25th. Catholic teachers will also join the other teacher unions in Ontario as a part of a province-wide walkout set for this Friday (Feb. 21st).
OECTA President Liz Stuart says the solution is for the government to back away from their reckless cuts to services that support vulnerable students, increasing class sizes, reducing course options and mandatory e-learning.
At the request of the Ministry of Labour a mediator has been appointed with negotiations between the OECTA and provincial government to continue today (Feb. 19th).
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says students belong in class and he’s pleased they will be back at the bargaining table.
He says the government has demonstrated their commitment to reaching a deal by affirming commitments to maintain all-day kindergarten, investing in special needs education and keeping classroom size low.
