The OPP are warning people about the latest trend they’ve seen in the area. Police have seen a recent trend in relation to stolen utility trailers being sold online.
Police report that these stolen trailers are being equipped with a new Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), with the old one being obscured or removed. The OPP are urging anyone buying utility trailers online to pay particular attention to missing VINs or obstructed VINs as well, as all trailers within the province require a registration.
In an effort to reduce the number of trailer thefts the OPP have released some tips including, storing your trailers in well-lit areas, using high quality trailer locks, and not leaving them disconnected.
Anyone that suspects a trailer to be stolen are asked to contact their local police service.
