A private school will be up and running in Clinton for the new school year in September.
Liz Walsh and Molly Groves are the co-founders of Cornerstone Schoolhouse, a one-room style schoolhouse for students aged 4 to 12. Grove will also be the principal and walsh will be a guide, what they refer teachers as.
The idea to start this up came from the duo being mothers to young children, and with how their own kids would be educated.
Walsh says it’s far away from a typical education.
Walsh says offering a year-round school experience with those designated breaks prevents the loss of learning which occurs in the summer.
Tuition for year one is between $9,000 and $11,000. However Walsh says at least 10% of tuition costs go into a tuition assistance plan. There’s also an opportunity for corporations to sponsor students, and there will be fundraisers for tuitions. On top of any profit made from the school goes to the plan.
Depending on the age of your child there’s a 12-15 cap of students. The school is made entirely up of 1 mixed age class. The hope is to eventually grow in a full K-12 school over time.
