A recent report from the CBC states every month, about 620 women and children are turned away from domestic violence shelters every day across Canada, which is about 19,000 times per month.
An Ontario investigation by the CBC shows a combined total of 2,280 women and children in 2018-19 were provided emergency housing, however 4,416 were turned away in that same time span.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton says they’re working hard to providing assistance to shelters.
Domestic violence is not a one-dimensional issue, and McNaughton acknowledges it’s a huge problem in communities across Ontario, and reaffirmed their commitment to ending human trafficking in the province.
