A local phone survey had 309 total respondents over the course of four January days and asked for people’s opinions on the current Doug Ford government, education system, and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson.
Conducted by Strategic Communications in the Ontario Provincial Electoral District of Huron-Bruce, the results appear to back what the Avon Maitland District School Board claim they’ve heard all along.
59% of those surveyed are against increased class sizes, with 13% strongly agreeing, 15% somewhat agreeing, 14% somewhat disagreeing and 2% not sure.
That’s one of the biggest contention points through the province’s contract negotiations with the four major teacher unions.
AMDSB OSSTF Presdient Shane Restall says it’s not a surprise the numbers show the opposition.
29% of respondents feel Thompson is doing a poor overall job as MPP, with 34.65% ranking either good or excellent, and 25% selecting fair. The rest selected they don’t know.
Restall said it’s time now for Thompson to get on board with her constituents and fight against cuts and changes to education.
