Water and wastewater rates are going up in Goderich.
Council approved a recommendation by BM Ross during the latest council meeting that would see rates go up by as much as 4.8 percent each year for the next five years.
Mayor John Grace says there hasn’t been much of an increase in water and wastewater rates over the last number of years.
He says the reason for the sudden spike is to cover costs in maintaining current infrastructure.
Grace says the infrastructure is aging and they need to reinvest in that infrastructure.
He says what he is hearing from engineers that the Town needs to be a little more aggressive.
