The Huron Women’s Shelter continues to serve the area in a variety of ways to ensure the safety of residents.
With a crisis centre and second stage program in Goderich (along with two other second-stage programs in Exeter and Clinton), their work and support stretch across the county.
The demand for these services has gone up due to the pandemic, with Second Stage Housing Program Coordinator Krista Evely describing a grim scenario a lot of women face.
They also offer 22 apartments, sexual assault and outreach counselling and are partnered with United Way Perth-Huron, which Evely says is integral to the work they’re able to accomplish.
