Premier Doug Ford has announced we are on the verge of cancelling elective surgeries. He is also worried about the new strain of COVID-19. Ford announced that a 28 day lockdown will begin on Boxing day.
Lockdown will be in place until January 23rd for the 27 public health units in the regions in southern Ontario and until January 9th for the remainder of the province.
The impacts of these time-limited measures will be evaluated throughout the 14 days in Northern Ontario and 28 days in Southern Ontario to determine if it is safe to lift any restrictions or if they need to be extended.
Essential businesses will be open so place like grocery and pharmacies, but all other businesses will only be able to do curbside pickup and delivery. Premier says to only leave home for essential reason like groceries or work.
Premier Ford announces school updates: Kids in K-8 will resume in class instruction on January 11, while highschool will return to the classrooms on the 25th.
