Finding 35 hours per week of ice time!
That’s one of the many concerns of South Huron Minor Hockey President Darren Kints following the news that South Huron’s Committee of the Whole has a recommendation coming to council on February 16th, to close Stephen Arena.
Kints adds that he put together an ice study in 2019 when the Municipality was putting together a grant for a multi use facility, and it showed that the ice time in neighbouring municipalities for minor hockey was not there.
Speaking of the multi use facility neither the Municipality or a local community group who submitted proposals have heard anything back from the Province in terms of whether funding is coming or not.
Kints also points to the mental health aspect of recreation activities, along with the economic driver of tournaments as other reasons he is opposed to the recommendation.
Minor hockey is urging all members, as well as the community to email council members and let their voices be heard.
