Although it falls far short of what doctors and opposition politicians had called for, Labour Minister Monte McNaughton calls the province’s new paid sick day program a balanced approach to help workers. Additionally, employers will be reimbursed up to 200-dollars a day for what they pay out through the program. McNaughton says the plan works in conjunction with the existing federal benefit.
The provincial program would expire in September.
