The Huron County OPP have wrapped up their recent Canada Day Safety Equipment Campaign, which turned out to be a success! The campaign started on June 26th and ended July 4th.
During the campaign officers were promoting the use of safety equipment to reduce the number of injuries and deaths on roadways, waterways and trails.
Huron County OPP completed marine patrols throughout the campaign and they reported almost 100 per cent compliance with operators having all the needed safety equipment.
Cyclists, skateboarders and scooter riders were also observed during the 9-day campaign, and were seen most often wearing safety equipment like helmets, and reflective clothing.
Also on roadways Huron OPP responded to 24 motor vehicle collisions, four of which involved injuries and one resulted in a fatality. Nine involved animals, eight with deer and one with raccoon. 106 drivers were charged with speeding during the campaign, as well as 7 with failing to wear a seatbelt, one with distracted driving, five with Liquor Licence Act charges and two with impaired driving.
Although this campaign is now complete, the Huron County OPP urges drivers and passengers to always make sure safety equipment is am important part of every trip to keep yourself and your family safe.
