Famme & Co Professional Corporation are the latest organization to be certified as a living wage employer in the Champion category.
The living wage is calculated annually by the United Way Perth-Huron Social Research and Planning Council, and is based on the expenses of a family of four with both adults working full-time hours, of 35 hours a week, and factoring in government transfers and deductions. It looks at the everyday expenses; food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. Right now Perth-Huron’s living wage is $17.55 an hour.
SRPC Director Joelle Lamport-Lewis said “Individuals should earn enough to be able to participate in society by being able to stay healthy, have a safe place to live and afford transportation. By becoming a certified living wage employer, Famme & Co. is taking a leadership role on local solutions to poverty in our communities through the living wage movement.”
