It is the 75th anniversary for the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority this year. Over the year, they are sharing profile features about its partnership in its 12 member municipalities. The Municipality of Huron East is a partner with the ABCA, educating students on soil, water, and habitats.
Many field trips have been made to the ABCA conservations, by St. James and St. Columban Catholic Schools, and Seaforth Public School. Grade 6 students have been immersed in outdoor studies at the Sylvan Conservation Program at Camp Sylvan, they have taken field trips to study science at the conservation areas, going as far as Rock Glen Conservation Area near Arkona. And in 2011 students and staff at Seaforth Public School planted trees and shrubs to ‘green up’ the school.
Students and staff from Seaforth Public School also got involved in a project that the Municipality of Huron East participated in. The Yellow Fish Road program where, in partnership with Trout Unlimited Canada, yellow fish were painted by storm drains as a reminder that storm drains link to rivers.
