On Monday afternoon the Huron County OPP released a warning to parents to check their children’s Halloween Candy, after a resident of Howick found suspected cannabis edibles in their child’s treat bag. The gummies were found in a small, smell-proof bag which is usually used for cannabis edibles, and it was believed that the package was handed out in the Town of Wroxeter.
On Monday night the OPP released a second statement letting the public know that the candy in this specific instance was not cannabis edibles, but regular candy gummies. The individual who distributed the bag contacted the OPP after becoming aware of the worry with it being an edible, and informed them that it was not. Police then learned from the individual that approximately 25 similar bags were distributed.
Huron County OPP do recommend that parents and caregivers always check Halloween candy to ensure that they are safe, and if there is any worry, question, or uncertainty with the item, it should be thrown out.
