The County of Huron has seen an increase in homelessness over the past few years, and the pandemic has only added to it.
The County now is looking into different housing plan that will align with their Long-Term Affordable Housing and Homelessness Plan.
One thing they are looking into is scattered housing, which would see multiple different areas around the community, which would offer more opportunities or people to integrate into the broader community. Erin Schooley, homelessness program supervisor for the county explains how this may look.
Schooley added that the week of November 29th they are doing an enumeration, collecting names of people who are coming into or our of homeless and get a better understand of what people need. She says that this will help them bring support to people experiencing homelessness in the area.
