The United Way Perth-Huron is continuing to see support for their 2021-2022 Annual Campaign, now having reached 32 per cent of their $2,002,061. Right now they have raised over $647,000 and all donations go right back into the community, and to other originations that the United Way Supports.
Coming up in February is the third annual Coldest Night of the Year walk, which Executive Director Ryan Erb says they are expanding to six different communities in the area, hosting them in Stratford, Goderich, Listowel, St. Marys, Exeter and Wingham.

Erb also talked about the new living wage in Perth-Huron, now at $17.95 an hour. This was announced a little over a week ago, and takes multiple things into consideration, like everyday expenses for food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation, while working a 35-hour work week.
Erb said that a lot of businesses in the area do pay their employees this wage, and those that do have found that it leads to more productive work, less sick days taken, and increased loyalty.
