Fake calls from the Health Unit have prompted a warning from Huron Perth Public Health.
Recently some businesses have been getting calls from people claiming to be HPPH inspectors and that the business must close down.
The Health Unit says these calls are NOT from staff.
You may be called by an inspector to discuss a complaint or concern, to arrange an inspection, to do a follow-up or review COVID-19 measures.
Ways to verify a call/visit from HPPH staff:
• When a PHI contacts you by phone, they will always identify themselves and their role and tell you why they are calling. The PHI will ask questions and give you further direction based on the nature of the issue or complaint received.
• You will also be given Health Unit contact information including a phone number and/or email where you can reach a PHI should you have additional questions.
• We will also offer to provide resources such as regulation documents, signage etc. as required.
• When a PHI visits your business, ask for identification – all health unit staff are issued photo identification and possess business cards.
If you receive a call/visit from a person that you think may be fraudulent, be sure to take the name, phone number and verify the caller with us. Please call 1-888-221-2133 and ask to speak to the Environmental Health manager or email EHResponse@hpph.ca
