The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is celebrating 75 years this year, and by doing so they are highlight different parts of the Conservation, this time the role Perth South plays in the Ausable River headwaters that protect mussels downstream.
Streams along highway 23, between Woodham and Whalen Corners form the headwaters of the Little Ausable River, which runs through the township of Lucan Bidduph before joining and becoming the Ausable River. These streams are the starting point for many live animals and species. F
Stewardship projects within Perth South have helped decrease runoff of soil, pollutants and sediment, as well as field windbreaks, treelines and vegetative buffer strips and berms all help maintain the habitat for the species, some of which are at risk.
