Everyone is reminded to enjoy the beauty of an icy lake from a distance.
As ice forms on the lake it breaks constantly and then refreezes before getting pushed towards the shoreline.
Experts say even when the extension of the ice goes to the shoreline it is not safe to walk on as the ice is thinner, less stable and the water in the lake is moving underneath.
Anyone who falls through could catch hypothermia which can set in within minutes if the conditions are cold enough.
