Premier Doug Ford says the illegal occupation of Ottawa and the protests at the borders must stop…and those who do not will face severe consequences.
The Premier has declared a State of Emergency and will bring back cabinet to enact new orders to make it illegal to block borders, 400 series highway, bridges, ports, railways and airports.
Fines will be severe up to $100 thousand and 1 year in jail, along with the chance of taking away drivers licences.
Premier Ford says while everyone has the right to peaceful protest, but it cannot impact livelihood of the hundreds of thousands of people who have been impacted, nor can it impact the people of Ottawa from living peacefully.
The Premier says measures against COVID-19 were brought in to protect lives.
He says the province is on track to remove all restrictions very soon, including the removal of the vaccine passport.
