Giant Hogweed has been found in Lucan.
There have been reports of the invasive herb in the parkland along the Benn drain, but the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority and the Township are working to remove the plant.
Giant Hogweed has many negative impacts on society and the environment.
Sap from the plant can cause a condition in humans which causes skin to become extremely sensitive to sunlight, and can also result in severe burns and blisters.
In terms of the environment Giant Hogweed outcompetes native place which reduces biodiversity and take away from the quality of habitat.
