Many people are done with the Pandemic, but the Pandemic isn’t done with you. It’s been 2 and a half years since the world shut down and we had to learn to live a little differently.
Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Dr. Miriam Klassen says this current wave of COVID is the most dominant wave in Ontario
There is an increase in COVID in wastewater and in Hospitals.
The best way you can stop the spread is by continuing to wear a mask, stay 6 feet apart and stay home if you are sick.
The best way to protect yourself from COVID is to get vaccinated. The first 2 doses you receive may not be enough to protect yourself from the BA.5 sub-variant of Omicron. By getting your booster, you are ensuring you have some immunity from the variant. If you are unsure if the 2nd booster is for you, Dr. Klassen recommends you visit your family doctor.
Only about 1/3 of people ages 18-29, 1/2 of people aged 40-49, and 60% of people aged 50-59 have their first booster.
The vaccine also helps protect yourself from long-COVID. Where complications can happen even after you get sick from COVID.
About 6 weeks from now, schools will be starting again. being indoors and in close proximity to people is what spreads COVID faster. If you are indoors and know social distancing is hard, you are encouraged to wear a mask. It will help decrease the transmission of the virus.
Although the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore has loosened restrictions and doesn’t see a need for them now; those restrictions could come back in the future if cases go up. Dr. Klassen also said if need be, to protect the people of Huron-Perth, she too could reinstate the mask mandate. However, she doesn’t see a need right now.
