The South Huron Arts Centre is offering a total of 12 classes this September.
Chair of the Centre’s Board, Deb Homuth, says there is something for everyone.
Classes range from how to appreciate classical music, pumpkin pottery, acrylic painting with some special guests, how to play the ukulele and even classes for kids aged 18 months to 3 years.
The Grand opening of the centre located at 42 James Street in Exeter is Saturday September 24th from 11am to 12pm, all are welcome to attend and a painting class follows!
Classes being offered this September are as follows:
– Acrylic Painting on Canvas with Jeffrey “Red” George Saturday, Sept. 24 1:00-5:00 p.m. – Experience painting with Jeffrey George (also known as Red George from the Red Dog Studio). Create a work of art with his guidance as he explains about Mother Earth, the Creation Story, and Turtle Island.
– Pretty Pottery Pumpkins with Ruth Anne Merner Tuesdays, Sept. 27th and Oct. 11th 6:15-9:15 pm – Learn several clay hand building and glazing techniques with Ruth Anne09 Merner to create these attractive pottery pumpkins which can be used with mini lights or tea lights if desired.
– Preschoolers Love the Arts! Tuesdays, Sept. 20-Oct. 25 9:00-10:30am – Bring your preschooler and join Deb Homuth in the fun! The arts play a vital role in early childhood development: creatively, cognitively, and physically.
– Introduction to Needlepunch Wednesdays, Sept. 14th-21st 1:00-3:00 pm includes the full kit – This technique goes back hundreds or maybe even thousands of years, but it has remained popular and takes on looks from primitive to modern, and there are many patterns to choose from.
– Beginning Guitar Mondays, Sept. 26-Nov.7th 7:00-8:30pm + bring your own acoustic guitar – Have you got an acoustic guitar sitting at home gathering dust, and you wish you that could pick it up and play some songs? Here’s your chance. Here’s your chance.
– Uke N’ Learn to Play the Ukulele Thursdays, Sept. 8-Oct.27 1:30-3:00pm – The ukulele is one of the easiest instruments to learn – you don’t have to have any musical experience to tap into your inner musician and learn how to play your favorite songs.
– Create a Unique Macrame Hanger and Pottery Planter Wednesdays, Sept. 28th and Wed. Oct. 12th 6:15-9:15 – Everything old is new again! Learn TWO great skills while working with TWO local artists.
– Make an Autumn Wreath with Jaela Jenken from Earthen Elegance Tuesday Sept. 20th 7:00-8:30pm – Learn to make your own seasonal decor with our local florist.
– Experience Sgraffito with Ruth Anne Merner Saturdays, Sept. 17th 9-4 and Oct. 1st 9-12 – Sgraffito (Italian word for ‘to scratch’) is “decoration by cutting away parts of a surface layer to expose a different coloured background.” Learn to create striking designs on your clay surface.
– Why Does Classical Music Never Go Out of Style: Learn to Listen with New Ears Tuesdays, Sept. 20-Oct. 11 7-8pm – In this class you will experience a “how do I listen” kind of approach, where they try to make Classical music more accessible and give you the vocabulary to be able to talk about what you’re hearing.
– Watercolour Painting with Lynne Haygarth Thursdays Sept.15- Oct. 6th 6:15-9:15pm – This beginners workshop focuses on techniques and processes for artists looking to learn and develop their skills in watercolour and drawing.
– Nature Photography Workshops Saturdays, Sept. 17th, 24th, Oct. 1st 9:00-10:00am – Choose one or more sessions – Bring your SLR or cellphone camera, tripods are helpful but not necessary – f you’re looking to improve your photography skills AND have some fun learning about that natural world around us, join South Huron Arts Centre Board Member, Scott Currie for a guided tour in our own backyard.

You can download the form and email it in with a e-transfer or, print off the form and mail it in with a cheque (42 James St. Exeter, ON N0M 1S6).
If there are not enough people for a class, it will not happen. For pottery classes you must register a week in advance and all other classes are 3 days in advance.
