Police are warning the public about a recent scam.
Perth OPP were called on September 12th after a victim called about a computer scam.
The victim received a popup stating their computer was infected, so they called the number on the popup.
Remote access was given to the suspect who grabbed the victims personal information.
The victim also provided their credit card number and was scammed out of nearly $1000.
Tips to keep you and your loved ones safe can be found below.
- Never download anti-virus software from a pop-up or link sent to you through email.
- Update your anti-virus software often and scan your computer for viruses regularly.
- Don’t click on links or attachments in e-mails sent to you by someone you don’t know.
- Turn on your browser’s pop-up blocking feature.
- Never clock on a pop up that claims your computer has a virus.
