Today is Truth and Reconciliation day. Today we take the time to honor children who never made it home from residential schools and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
Chief of the Chippewas of the Kettle and Stony Point First Nations, Jason Henry says he has mixed feelings of today.
Henry says that people seem to forget the meaning of Victoria Day. Most people end up at the cottage, not knowing the true meaning. Henry has the same fear for Truth and Reconciliation day.
Henry also said it was alarming the amount of federal employees who got a paid day off. Instead of a paid day off, Henry say the money could be used for education. Like teaching people of the generational trauma Indigenous People in Canada face.
The 2-tier system when it comes to health care, policing and education. As well as issues Indigenous Communities may be facing, like nondrinkable water.
