Soaring inflation, and the increase in everything from rent to groceries and everything in between, has led to an increase in the amount needed to live.
The United Way of Perth Huron Social Research and Planning Council has done all the hard calculations and has figured out the new living wage locally is $20.70.
This is an increase of nearly $3 from this time last year.
We spoke with Director of the Council Kristin Crane who says the living wage calculation takes basic needs into account when figuring out the amount needed.
Crane says those making minimum wage are falling short over $700 per month when it comes to covering expenses.
Crane says the living wage is calculated using local data and weighted against different family types.
