Poverty is an increasing problem across the province.
The reason for food insecurity can be boiled down to 1 main problem: low income.
People living on government assistance or minimum wage jobs can hardly make rent leaving food as an afterthought meaning the quality and nutrition of the food is in question.
Food banks can’t keep up with demand because they struggle with storage and donations.
Some solutions could be a basic income guarantee or living wage, higher minimum wage, more social assistance, affordable childcare, public transit and subsidized and affordable housing.
