With wild weather on the forecast myFM has some tips to keep yourself safe while shoveling.
Think twice about shoveling if you have had or are at risk of having a heart attack.
If you are uncertain about shoveling, consider reaching out to a volunteer group or hiring a student.
When shoveling, try to push the snow rather than lifting, and when you lift, stand with feet at hip width for balance, bend from your knees not your back, tighten your stomach and avoid twisting.
It’s better to hold the shovel closer to your body while pushing.
Other tips are to try spraying your shovel with a silicone-based lubricant which will prevent the snow from sticking and salting the ground afterwards.
With the region forecasted to get anywhere from 10 to 50 cm of snow, tune into myFM for frequent weather updates, road closures and community impact.
