During Monday night’s South Huron council meeting, the South Huron Hospital Foundation made a presentation.
Executive Director Krista McCann tells myFM they wanted to start a conversation with the Municipality around a partnership to help sustain local healthcare.
As the South Huron Hospital enters its 70th year in existence, McCann says there are a couple of key challenges.
McCann also told council the hospital has a unique model when it comes to the local clinic as it owns and operates the clinic, which means covering roughly $350-500 thousand per year.
Board Chair Pat O’Rouke was in attendance and said it should be up to the Ministry to fund the clinic but since they are not, we need to take care of ourselves.
Besides the partnership the Foundation is looking at ways council can help support the foundation financially.
The third ask was to help cover all of or some of the $200 thousand dollar cost of the Master Plan which was needed as the hospital looks to the future.
This plan along with a partnership with council will help when the Foundation heads to talk to the Ministry about a potential new hospital or at the very least revamping the existing hospital.
