Think before you hit send.
That’s the message from police following a recent Sextortion case in West Perth involving a 15 year old.
Sextortion happens when a sexually explicit conversation happens, or when pictures or video are sent, and one person threatens the other with the release of the information if a payment of some kind isn’t made.
In this local case the teen sent intimate pictures and the suspect threatened to send them to friends and family of the victim, if more pictures were not sent.
The victim sent $150 hoping to make the threats stop.
Police say if someone starts demanding money or starts making threats, it’s important to never pay the money, but instead screenshot the messages, and block the scammer before calling police.
