The intersection of County Road 83 and Airport Line may finally be getting a roundabout.
Huron County Council has a budget for the roundabout in the 2023 budget. Right now, it is estimated at almost $3 Million.
Huron County Engineer and Director of Operations, Steve Lund, tells myFM the county has looked at a lot of options for the intersection.
South Huron Mayor George Finch tells myFM he has been advocating for a roundabout since 2020.
Finch says the impact for rate payers will be minimal, as it will be included in Huron County’s budget.
The timeline for the project is about a year, the design and engineering still needs to be done, along with a bit of widening of the intersection. If all goes fast, we could see construction start in 2024.
Finch says he has had concerns about the intersection for well over 30 years. As a retired OPP Officer, he says they can give tickets all day long, but that won’t stop people from not paying attention.
Other forms of safety precautions for the intersection were explored, like lights, rumble strips and more; but a roundabout was the best option.
Finch says if all goes well and the County approves everything, the roundabout construction could start as early as 2024.
