The Ontario Government released the 2023 budget last Thursday.
Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce, tells myFM the budget shows the Ontario Government is listening.
Funding has been placed in sectors such as Mental Health and Addition, as well as combating homelessness.
Thompson says investing in these areas shows initiative.
myFM also asked Thompson about why there wasn’t any additional funding for Municipalities, especially after Bill 23 (More Homes Built Faster Act).
Ontario has also budgeted $202 Million, each year for 2 years, for Homelessness Prevention and $425 Million over 3 years for Mental Health and Addiction. Thompson says it shows that the Province is listening to Rural Towns.
About 40% of the budget surrounds health care spending, while social services are at 9.5%. Not included is additional municipal funding to cover their expected loss in tax revenue from Bill 23. The health sector takes the largest chunk of provincial spending at just under 40%, with 17% dedicated to education.
