An appeal to the provincial government was launched by Hospice and Palliative Care Ontario last week – asking $46 million in increased funding for hospice residences across the province.
On a local level, the annual budget of Huron Hospice is about $1.2 million – and due to their funding model, the community contributes $712,000 through various fundraisers and initiatives.
Manager of Fund Development for Huron Hospice Christopher Walker says that this appeal is timely,
The shortfall in budget is generally passed onto the communities that they work in, as only 40-50% of operational costs are shouldered by the province.
Walker thinks that the increased demand is due to increased familiarity,

Upcoming events that will help make up this contribution include the Hike for Hospice on May 28th, Butterfly Release on August 27th, and the Telethon coming up in September.
