After more than three years, the World Health Organization has officially declared COVID-19 an ongoing health issue, and has declared the global health emergency officially over as of a statement today (Friday, May 5th).
They advised that although the emergency is over, it still presents a global health threat. The removal of emergency status is likely to have marginal practical impact, as many governments have already lifted their own emergency declarations, however it does present a significant milestone.
